On September 29th the school had an Ofsted visit as part of their work into how England’s education system is managing the return to full education for students, following an extended break in formal schooling due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Ofsted’s visits to schools during the autumn term are not inspections. They are not giving graded judgements. The information from this visit will feed into Ofsted’s national reporting so that the insights can be shared with the government and the education sector.

While the purpose of the visit is not to evaluate our provision, we were pleased to share with them our arrangements for remote learning and for our curriculum provision throughout the year. They noted the continued breadth of our curriculum, despite the introduction of year group bubbles, and the assessment processes in place to ensure gaps in knowledge are addressed.

I am delighted to write to you to share details of our OFSTED monitoring visit which took place on Thursday September 26th, 2019.

The key headline from the report is the judgement that “leaders and managers are taking effective action towards the removal of serious weaknesses designation”.

The report states, “There have been a lot of positive changes since the inspection in October 2018.” The report goes on to say, “senior leaders are ambitious and want the school to improve” and “they have established a new vision and new values for the school and staff are motivated to fulfil the vision.”

I am extremely proud of our whole team of staff who have worked tirelessly to bring about the improvements needed. The range of improvement is fully recognised in the inspection report, which notes that “pupil’s attendance has improved”, “pupil’s personal development is at the heart of the curriculum”, and “pupils say they feel safe in the school”.

In addition, the report emphasises that, “pupils behave well in the school” and points out that, “pupils receive rewards for good learning and behaviour.” Many more strengths are identified in the report and I would encourage you to take the time to read it as it demonstrates the impact of the hard work of the all staff at the school over the last 12 months.

Finally, I would like to assure you that everyone involved in the school, from governors, the senior leadership team, middle leaders, teachers and support staff, are fully committed to our continuing improvement and will work tirelessly so that we make rapid progress and come out of Serious Weaknesses in the very near future.
