Duke of Edinburgh Award

We offer students in Year 9 upwards the opportunity to gain their Bronze or Silver Award, getting involved in a range of activities indoors and outdoors. More information can be found on the DofE website:


The Bronze Award has four sections, volunteer, physical, skill and expedition. Participants can select activities for each of the first 3 sections and they need to spend on average an hour a week on each, for 3 months, one of the sections needs to be for 6 months. The expedition will take place towards the end of Year 9 or early in Year 10, this is a 2-day expedition with 1-night camping. The expedition will be arranged and delivered by qualified Glossopdale teaching staff who have volunteered their own time and expertise to assist with the DofE programme.

Any student in Year 9 may register for the DofE Bronze award scheme. The total cost is £150 and this can be paid via Parent Pay. This fee includes £22.00 registration and eDofE account, insurance and wide range of resources and support. £20 is a contribution to the Central England DofE licensing body fee and the remaining £108 is for the training, practice and qualifying expeditions, campsite fees, group kit and final Bronze level assessment and provision of the certificate and badge at the end of the programme.
